DIMANCHE À LA MAISON FRANÇOIS

DIMANCHE À LA MAISON FRANÇOIS

Sunday is for getting together.  Sunday is for inviting friends and family around the table.  Sunday is for lunch. There's only one dilemma.  Who's doing the washing up?

We are francophiles at Maison François with an unabashed love of the traditions and rituals around French country cooking.  Sunday is the perfect opportunity to celebrate regional cuisine with a series of themed lunches that highlight those classic dishes that evoke the Gallic love of food.  These dishes, like cassoulet and bouillabaisse, are intimately linked to the wines and grape varieties that grow locally, and our Sunday lunch feasts give us the chance to pair the dishes with wines that are naturally in harmony.

Whether it is a hearty cassoulet, a navarin of lamb, or coq au vin, our new Sunday series is a wonderful excuse for a get together, leaving London behind in an exploration of the best of France. Just leave the washing up to us.

Here is how we will be kicking off 2023

  • Sunday in Loire à la Maison François - Sunday April 30th to Sunday 28th May

As April turns to May our gastronomic tour of France continues to the Loire valley, the garden of France, and a land of fairy tale castles. France’s longest river starts it journey deep in the Auvergne, and makes its way north and west through some of Europe’s most picturesque landscapes. From Sancerre to the Atlantic coast the broad and gentle river offers chefs and sommeliers a constant reason for joy.

Chef Matt and his team have created a Sunday set lunch menu that captures the essence of spring and the river. Tarte aux oignons, fromage de chèvre with chicory salad, is followed by the Loire's signature fish, trout served with asparagus and beurre blanc sauce. Patissier Jeremy will be recreating his legendary tarte tatin for dessert, evoking the orchards that line the bank's of the regal river.

Our sommeliers have a cellar deep with great Loire wines, and have curated a wine flight that captures the bright, fresh and fruit forward flavours of the region to pair perfectly with the dishes.

  • Sunday in Toulouse à la Maison François - Sunday 15th Jan to Sunday 26th Feb

Just to the north of the city of Toulouse, you will discover the small medieval town of Castelnaudary, home to the famous cassoulet. This hearty dish exploits the rich and diverse agriculture of the surroundings, bringing together the haricot beans of Tarbes, the sausage of Toulouse, and not forgetting the irresistible confit de canard. If ever there was a dish to keep the chill of winter at bay it's cassoulet, and is the centrepiece of our four course lunch which starts with the classic Salade Aux Gésiers, and ends with Ossau Iraty cheese and a Toulousain speciality, Tarte Fenetra.

Wines reflect the naturally gutsy character of the dishes and the rolling, rural landscape, and our themed carte des vins and pairing features native bottles like sparkling Mauzac, peppery Marcillac, and tangy Jurançon.

The set four course menu runs each Sunday from January 15th to 26th February 2023.

  • Sunday in Lyon à la Maison François - Sunday March 5th to Sunday 23rd April

The fabulous food culture of Lyon centres around the traditional bistros called bouchons which line the river bank that winds through the lower part of the city. The location, at the crossroad between Burgundy and the sultry south gives an abundance of produce rarely matched further afield. From this exceptional larder our lunch centres on pot au feu, which Raymond Blanc describes as 'the quintessence of French family cuisine.' To frame this nourishing beef stew, Matt and the team will open with mixed hors d’oeuvre and finish with St Marcellin cheese and Lyon's signature dessert, tarte aux pralines.

Wines featured on our themed carte des vin and pairing will include great cru Beaujolais and delicacies from the nearby slopes of the northern Rhône.

The set four course menu runs each Sunday from March 5th to 23rd April.
